Carolyn King
Carolyn King
Carolyn King grew up in the Chicago area but 'Came of Age' in Central Mexico where she lived, studied and fell in love with the depth of culture from pre-Hispanic through contemporary times.
Trained as a print-maker in Mexico, her work reflects Mexico's visual arts traditions of figuration and narration. Carolyn works in mixed-media layers using charcoal, watercolor pencils, pastels, collage and acrylics on wood panels, canvas and paper. Thematically, her work focuses most often on honoring women from indigenous and traditional cultures.

Beyond her studio practice, Carolyn is a deeply rooted community arts advocate and educator with an extensive legacy of local impact:
Gallery Leadership: Board member for 21 years at Raices Taller 222 Art Gallery & Workshop.
Arts Education: Served as the former Director of Education at the Tucson Museum of Art and spent 20 years as a TUSD Teaching-Artist.
Community Wellness: Spent a decade as a Creativity Guide at TMC for Seniors and dedicated 16 months to the United Cerebral Palsy "Public Arts Project" community collaboration.
Current Projects: She is currently working on a pending Mosaic Mural project with TMC for Seniors, designed for the Tucson Medical Center courtyard.
When she isn't creating or teaching, you can often find Carolyn enjoying her favorite local hang-out spot at El Rillito, or supporting the San Jose Women's Shelter.
